For those who are not aware of the latest fitness craze to come down the golden path(that's slowly turning into a dirt road) P90X in one of the new DVD home fitness program.
I got to see some of the program and here is my unqualified opinion on this and other DVD programs.
- Just like Jane Fonda, DVD for fitness sells and makes the author rich. (they call that in the fitness industry a "revenue stream".
- The P90x does incorporate all kinds of fitness tools like dumbells, body weight exercise, boxing and pullups. The attempt is to get more of the body involved and keep up with the success of crossfit type training.
- Just like fitness equipment you buy for your home gym, 90 % will not be used or followed in a few days or weeks without out side coaching or training.
- A rare few obtain the results at home, by oneself, that they show on the commercials. Why, that human nature my son.

My opinion, after completing the 12 week program, is different than yours. No doubt this product is designed to rake in the money, and the exercise equipment and energy bars/recovery drinks definitely help with that. But the prgram is very good and more effective than other programs out there for a few reasons.
1. Variety. Your workouts are constantly changing, so you never get bored. It really helps the motivation factor.
2. Inclusion of a meal plan. The meal plan is both easy to understand and effective. It even includes recipes. They are very honest that, without a proper meal plan, you will see little results with your workouts, and this is true.
3.Quick gains. The program is set up so you can track your improvements easily. With the combination of the meal plan, the handful of people I have known on the program have noticed substantial differences in their strength, endurance, and bodyfat in three weeks time. This really is a big motivator.
Having said that, there is a negative to this program. P90x works because there are no gimmicks. And no gimmicks means you are going to have to invest a lot of time. On average you will work out near 1.5 hours 6 days a week. Then add on top of that time to prepare all your healthy meals (fast food is forbidden). But that doesn't mean that it doesn't work. I have had friends lose 30lbs on the program, and I got into the best shape of my life, at the age of 30 no less.

I tried p90x for the first time yesterday, a friend gave me the discs so thought I'd try it out. Was a half decent workout, got the blood pumping etc (nothing in the realms of lccj or a 10min snatch session)But for how long can you keep up such a program?
Kettlebells and weight lifting(squat,deads, oly lifts etc) become ingrained for life not for 12 weeks so if you're looking for a true challenge then p90x will be more of a fad. I mean how deep can you dig with a p90x session? Now compare that with a butt busting lccj for 10min. Kettlebells are for life, p90x is for about 12 weeks if you can stick it out
